Natural And Commercial Products To Remove Sticker Glues From Surfaces

Removal of sticky substances from the surfaces of wooden furniture or mirror is often an ignored part of home cleaning due to its difficulty. While you may resort to using commercial products available in the market, it might be good to try out solutions using readily available stuffs at home as a part of regular domestic cleaning.

Peanut butter is the natural solution when it comes to removing sticker goo from surfaces. Spread peanut butter over the sticky mess and let it sit for several hours, much like a laundry pre-treatment product. Wipe off the excess part along with the sticky residue. Remove the oil in the peanut butter from the fabric using a degreaser prior to washing.

There are several commercial products available in the market should you prefer to choose a ready to use solution for the purpose. These products help remove sticky substances from fabric after it's gone through the washer and dryer.

A well known product available is called De-Solv-It. Readily available at Wal-Mart, this product has been known to remove the sticker as well as the residue. Another product marketed as an adhesive remover is called Un-Du. This item is used in the scrapbook industry and though somewhat expensive, it will completely remove the sticky residue without leaving a trace.

Glass or Mirror:

To sticker glue from the surface of glass or mirror, rubbing alcohol could be an ideal solution. Remove as much of the sticker as you can with your fingernail. Soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and apply it on the sticker. After the alcohol has soaked on the sticker for about five minutes, rub it away with a dry cloth. The sticker and residue should be gone.

WD-40 has also been proven to remove sticker goo. Apply it to the sticker goo and leave it on for a few minutes. As WD-40 is somewhat oily and might leave a residue of its own, do not use it on a surface that you plan to paint later.

Wood or Furniture:

Sticky residue on wood surfaces could be removed with oil-based products such as furniture polish, cooking oil, baby oil or mineral oil. Saturate the sticker by applying the oil to a clean cloth. Leave it on for some time so the oil can penetrate through the glue, and wipe it off.
