Ebonite Playmaker

Buying my 1st bowling ball?

Ok so me and my girlfriend are starting to get into bowling. Once we get better we want to be in a couples league and such. Right now I average around 130 and her around 110 using the house balls. I usually found if best to throw the house ball with no hook because they justdon'tt seem to want to.

We are looking to get a ball that will be good to help us learn to hook better andisn'tt too cheap in quality so it will last a while as our skill sets progress. I have been looking some and for me I think the Hammer Raw ACID looks like a pretty decent ball, for her an Ebonite Playmaker. Any thought and advice is appreciated.

For beginners, either an entry level reactive resin bowling ball or mid performance reactive resin or particle ball should work. Since you mentioned the Hammer Raw Acid, they also have the Hammer Razyr, Hammer Vibe and the other Hammer Raw series bowling balls too, which usually retail from $80 to $100.

I bowl exclusively with Brunswick/Elite/MoRich/Revolution/Quantum bowling equipment manufactured by Brunswick, but have other brands too. My mid performance and entry level equipment in my "arsenal" is as follows:

Brunswick Avalanche Slide
Brunswick Red Zone
Elite Solar Eclipse
Hammer Razyr
Hammer Cherry Vibe
Storm Tropical Storm

You can ask your local pro shop for further information because he'll be able to help based upon your budget, lane conditions bowled on and your level of experience. Good luck!

Bowling ball help (how to make a ball hook less)?

I recently purchase an 15 lbs ebonite playmaker bowling ball. This was my first bowling ball purchase. I had been bowling with a 15 lbs house ball with great success. I am having trouble with keeping the playmaker from hooking too much. I can't keep the ball right of the head pin. No matter how hard I throw the ball of how much I try to keep the ball from spinning it continues to hook too far left. Is there anything I can do to the ball to make it hook less?

Well, for starters, a house ball is usually not a ball meant to hook. You have to go to the proshop and get it shined, that should reduce hooking. Or go to a bowling ally with more oil. Try pointing you pinky at the target at the release, that helps me a lot. I bowl with a 14 lbs Track The Rising averaging near 150 and still going up now.

O, and Michael M, MORE SPEED will do nothing but hurt you. Firing at the pins is a bad habbit and should be avoided at all costs. Because then when you go to a different house with different oil patterns, you'll be dead! Trust me, been their, done that!
